Princess Princess Episode 1
I have just discovered that I am a compulsive liar =P. I was going to stop after the yaoi review but I got too bored so here’s another episode review! This time the spotlight is on Princess Princess also affectionately known as Pri-Pri. I’m a pretty big fan of Mikiyo Tsuda/ Zaou Taishi so when the manga series was adapted to anime I was pretty happy ^_^ It runs for 12 episodes and while not a perfect adaptation of the manga, does pretty well on its own.

X_X I apologize for so much text in the images but I don’t have raws for episode 1. Anyway, the premise doesn’t sound all that interesting. An all-boys school and three crossdressers aka princesses. What could possibly make that interesting? Well throw in a demonic student council president who was a former princess, unique art, and comedic expressions, this series makes for a light-hearted watch. Of course, as with other light hearted series I have mentioned before, they carry hints of darker themes such as dealing with loneliness and a stalker who honestly hurts people not used as a comedic parody. However, the show overall is light, hilarious, and can appeal to both guys and girls. I found myself laughing at many of the character expressions throughout the episode and the semi-breaking of the fourth wall.
So what is this all about? We start off with a transfer student who has arrived at his new school in the middle of the semester. On his arrival, he is surprised to see a girl wearing a frilly dress jump out of the trees. After a staring contest, the girl runs off. Oh well, not like he’ll ever see her again. It’s an all-boys school. Expecting life to just carry on normally, he is surprised at the warm welcome he recieves from the students and his teacher’s ummm somewhat perverted behavior about how Tohru is the beautiful type. (I’d be freaked out too) On his first day, the class rep Akira shows him around and another student, Shihoudani shows him to the dorms. To his confusion students of all years bow to the friendly Akira whenever they see him and hang around Shihoudani as if he was a idol.

Btw, for those who are wondering, yes, it appears only the main characters have colored hair, everyone else is perfectly normal. Well color-coded for convenience! When Tohru arrives at the dorms, he discovers he’s a Princess candidate! Wooow I didn’t see that coming =P He also gets to meet the third princess Mikoto. Guess whooo? ^_^ Having no choice in whether he can decide to be a princess or not, Tohru just resigns himself to face the next day.

Clinging on to the hope that the student council won’t choose him to be a princess, Tohru awaits summons to the SC office as he watches Yuu-chan/Shihoudani provide service to his fans ^_^ Episode one ends here…LOOK! More PICTURES!

*if one of the screencaps I took didn’t already give the final answer, readers should have already guessed anyway =D*
Apologies for the quality of the second half of this post but when I tried to save draft I got a webpage unavailable message which means this is my second time around working on this. Inspiration and drive sort of dies a little if things have to be redone all over X_X
